My View On Today's Music

Before I start, just know I respect your right to listen to and like whatever you want. I encourage you to be yourself and find what you love. This is just my opinion. For one, this whole Disney channel music needs to stop. Or stop claiming to be music ha ha! I understand that these tween icons are quite financially set for the rest of their lives because of it, and good for them, but please kids, DO NOT get into the music industry just for fame and fortune because in all actuality, You probably will never be recognized. Along with almost everybody else who tries. Along with me. And to be quite honest, I'm fine with that. If I don't ever get (even slightly) famous, I'm fine. I am just as happy playing guitar by myself in my room, or a party of 1oo. Either way, Do it because you love it. That's why I do it. I couldn't live without it. As Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day once said: "Music is the blood that runs through my veins that keeps me alive." That is the truth. Bottom line, don’t do it for money. Do it because you love it. For two, where is music headed these days? Straight to hell. That's where it's headed. You can't turn on the radio without "rap", this noise someone called music. What do you think Lennon would think of this? Or Legends such as Elmore James? It's a disgrace to music. The greats paved a smooth road and the 21st century music scene stuck dynamite in it and boom. Just like that. Now I don't mean to bash every band out right now because there are some good ones out there such as Green day (not to sound hypocritical, but hey, this article is all about personal likes and dis-likes), Wolfmother, Slipknot (once again, my personal opinion) and a lot of others I can't remember. But aside from them, the fact remains, music these days is crap. Total crap. For every good band there are 20 shitty ones. And one quote that sums up rappers for me is "why do they call them artists? Because they sure as hell can't call them musicians!" I love that. But yes, that’s two of my dis-likes. Rap and tween boy bands. And I can name many bands that were great but fizzled out. And never really got the recognition they deserved. The first that comes to mind is a Canadian band called Neurosonic. They came out with there debut album "Drama Queen" in 2007 and they toured opening up for bands and playing small clubs until early 2009 when lead singer Jason Darr announced that Neurosonic was over. And they were a great band. I wish I could replace all crap bands in the mainstream with some better, less known bands playing clubs. But AH I'm ranting LOL but the fact is, all of you pop boy bands are killing music as we speak. Now I've been watching some "hater" videos for the Jonas Brothers and I have to say there are some ok fans and some not so ok fans. Now, a lot of fan girls go out of their way to say things like "they are the best guitar players in the world" and "omg their lyrics are so amazing". Ok, Jonas fans please leave now (or not I don’t care). If you think 3 chords, shallow lyrics about short term relationships and "hawtness" are a great band, you have issues. And I'm not going to bash them for their purity rings. I think that’s actually setting a good example for kids. And no, I don't think they are gay either. Just extremely untalented. And for you fans who like them, good for you. I'm happy you like them. But to the fans that go out of their way to make obnoxious remarks about how we suck if we don't like them, buck off. OMG I ALMOST SAID A SWEAR ;) LOL but yea, you're pretty ignorant. And get your facts about great guitar solos first. I would show some clips to compare them to others but I don't want to stain my blog with that crap. Their lyrics are as said by a youtuber, "recycled Hansen." I could not say this better myself LOL! And if you are signed by the Disney channel don't call yourself rock. Please. But enough of that. Onto rap. In the early 90's it at least had a message of how hard life was and representing the street. Now, the only message radio rap has is "how much money I have" and "How my crew rolls in the club" uggh. I can't even tell you how stupid it is. And don't get me started on how degrading rap is to women. You know what? I'm done with rap for this article. Onto "radio rock". This is the mainstream crap being played on the radio every day. The sell-outs. There are far too many to name, but I assure you there are some good bands in this vast ocean of alt "buzz ballad" bands including: um well uhhh I can't think of any haha but the fact remains, music these days is not going in a good direction and I fear for future generations of music. Where will it go? I don't know. I guess we'll have to wait and see...

What I'm doing this year

Well, I will hopefully find a band to work with besides side project, HOOKSET, Mod my strat with one of those Seymore Duncan humbuckers and maybe even upgrade to a marshall stack.
